Albert Cummings
Called “sizzling” by Billboard Magazine, blues guitarist and virtuoso Albert Cummings comes to The Lyric Theatre this April for a performance of genre-defying blues. Over his 15-year career, Cummings has worked with some of the best, including Double Trouble, BB King, and Johnny Winter. With a background in bluegrass, the blues musician is known for his passion for pushing boundaries and developing an individual style unlike any other.
A Massachusetts native, Albert Cummings learned guitar as a young man from his father. At the age of 12, he switched to the banjo, traveling across the country to music festivals and winning several high school picking contests. It wasn’t until Cummings was in college that he returned to the guitar. After seeing the great Stevie Ray Vaughan perform, Albert Cummings devoted himself fully to the blues. In the ‘90s, Cummings formed the short-lived band Swamp Yankee, only to begin a wildly successful solo career by the beginning of the 21st century. After playing briefly with Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rhythm section Double Trouble, Cummings recorded the 2003 album, From the Heart (Under the Radar) with Vaughan’s former bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton. A year later, Albert Cummings signed with Blind Pig Records, beginning a long relationship that still stands to this day.
Beloved by fans and praised by his peers, Albert Cummings’s best is yet to come. When he’s not building award-winning homes in his spare time, the blues musician is hard at work perfecting his style and bringing his signature blues to audiences across the country. His latest, yet to be titled, album features the leader of Conan O’Brien’s Basic Cable Band, Jimmy Vivino. The album, produced by the legendary David Z, will be released later this summer. But, don’t wait for the album. Experience Albert Cummings live this April at The Lyric Theatre.
