Sarge

With a diverse vocal range, perfect comedic timing, and a natural talent for the piano, Sarge is what you’d call a real triple threat. Featured prominently on major television networks such as Comedy Central and HBO, Sarge’s stand up is an expertly crafted combination of lyrics and laughs. The Florida native and entertainer returns this March for another uproarious comedy special on The Lyric stage.

Born in Florida during the tumultuous 1960s, Sarge was the son of a Jewish mother and black father. Shortly after birth, Sarge was put up for adoption and was taken in and raised by a couple living in Long Island, New York. An initial childhood interest in music blossomed into a fruitful relationship with the piano. However, growing up, the entertainer struggled with drug abuse and homelessness, eventually finding peace in 1990 and quitting his addiction cold turkey. From then on, Sarge decided to devote his life to helping others who are going through the same struggle. This personality-shaping experience was a crucial element of Sarge's eventual decision to become a comedian, learning to therapeutically deal with trying situations through the outlet of comedy.

Sarge’s success is a testimony to his struggle. The beloved comedian has headlined at some of the most well-known venues in the country including the famous Radio City Music Hall. Opening for major figures in the music industry from Aretha Franklin to the Beach Boys, Sarge is more than just a comedian. His long history in the entertainment industry as well as his experience performing with some of the greatest artists of all time prove that Sarge’s performances are as rewarding musically as they are comedically.
