The Lyric Theatre Presents

Xiayin Wang

Acclaimed classical pianist Xiayin Wang has been quite busy since we’ve last been privileged to hear her at the Lyric.  In May 2009, she performed in concert at the new Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, where her program included the world premiere of “Enchanted Garden, Preludes, Book 11,” by noted composer Richard Danielpour.  She also performed in recital at the United Nations, and as a soloist in California, Washington State and Florida, notably with the Naples Philharmonic and the Miami Pops Orchestra.

As if those highlights weren’t enough, Wang recorded Danielpour’s “Enchanted Garden” for Naxos in June 2009.  Her CD featuring Scriabin piano music, released in May 2009, made #45 on the classical Billboard charts during its debut week.

Wang, an artist with a winning combination of consummate technical brilliance, fine musicianship and personal verve, wins the hearts of audiences wherever she appears.  She’s also clearly won over the critics.  “. . . an estimable grasp of pianistic color,” says The New York Times.  The Washington Post calls Wang “a paragon of virtuosity,” while All Music Guide praises her “breadth of repertoire, sensitive touch and beautiful overall sound.”

As recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral soloist, Wang has earned a place among the musical elite of her generation.  We are honored to once again spotlight this internationally renowned classical artist on the Lyric stage.
