The Lyric Theatre Presents
Justin David in Concert
When he was a kid growing up, Justin David viewed fiddle competitions like most other kids his age looked at mowing lawns: as a way to earn some spending money. Today, the talented singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (playing guitar, mandolin, fiddle and more) is viewed as one of Nashville’s fastest-rising stars.
Just ask country music legend Roy Clark. “Do yourself a favor and listen to Justin David,” says Clark. “As far as playing fiddle, mandolin, being a great singer – he is unequaled. Justin David is a great young talent.”
David’s first instrument was the mandolin, which he began to play at the age of four, with his mother accompanying him on piano. “The music was continuous at our house,” says David. “I grew up around one big jam session, thanks to my parents.”
That jamming paid off. As a teen, David received a National Endowment for the Arts Master Artists Apprenticeship. In 2005, while performing in Branson, Missouri, he auditioned for television’s “Nashville Star,” and was one of the show’s top five finalists.
Once Roy Clark heard David play, he hired him to become part of his band, an opportunity that David counts as one of the luckiest of his career. David has played with Clark for the past seven years, with Clark graciously turning over the stage to him for a solo set each night.
Now with two CD releases of his own, David is building his solo career and touring with his own band. Do yourself a favor and catch this performance by one of Nashville’s “ones to watch” on the contemporary country music horizon.
