The Academy Orchestra plays the Music of Mannheim Steamroller
Back to kick off the holiday season again this year, The Academy Orchestra presents the best of Mannheim Steamroller. Mannheim Steamroller's distinctive arrangements of holiday classics are expertly executed by the talents of professional local and international symphony musicians that comprise The Academy Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Tom Servinsky.
In 1984, Mannheim Steamroller group founder, Chip Davis realized that music stores were missing the kind of seasonal music that customers were looking for and, despite protests by distributors, Davis and Mannheim Steamroller released their “Mannheim Steamroller Christmas” album. 25 years later, the album remains one of the most influential Christmas albums of all time. Mannheim Steamroller continues to push boundaries, offering the best contemporary and classic interpretations of holiday music available today. Mannheim Steamroller has made its mark on the music industry, selling over 40 million records, 27 in the Christmas genre, alone.
The Academy Orchestra, under the baton of Thomas Servinsky, is a project of the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony and is composed of professional symphony musicians, alumni of the Treasure Coast Youth Symphony who are currently studying music in colleges and conservatories, and the youth symphony’s most advanced players. Designed as a mentoring orchestra, the combination mixes the best with the best to provide opportunities for serious young musicians to play side-by-side with some of South Florida’s finest professional musicians. As mentors, the professionals augment the students’ individual private tutoring by providing additional technical and artistic guidance in orchestral performance experience.
