The Lyric Theatre Presents
La Diva Tenors
La Diva Tenors dazzles with the best of contemporary pop crossovers, Broadway show tunes, a dash of opera and their unique blend of humor and wit to the stage for an entrancing evening of vocal excellence. Comprised of three powerhouse tenors and their lovely soprano, La Diva Tenors boast an astonishing collective history of performance, performing all over the world and working with some of the biggest names in the music business, including Luciano Pavarotti, David Gilbert, and Placido Domingo.
Tenor Antonio Buonauro started his studies in Europe as a child. Buonauro then continued his training in the United States, attending Julliard School and the Mannes School of Music. At an early age, he won the regional Metropolitan Opera Young Artists competition. He got his operatic debut with the New York Grand Opera in Puccini’s Trittico by Maestro Vincent La Selva. The New York Times reviews translated "Buonauro as precious metal or good as gold voice. Luckily for the audiences, he is both a great actor and singer as Don Jose in Carmen."
Thomas Bethman began his career singing as a child in international theatre venues, performing in over 44 countries throughout his professional career. He has worked with notable conductors such as David Gilbert, Roland Fiore, and Gerard Schwartz and has coached with Gildo di Nunzio of the New York Metropolitan Opera. He began formal opera training at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and later trained at The Juilliard School. He has performed roles ranging from Alfredo in La Traviata to Rodolfo in La Boheme.
Tenor James Gafgen made his New York operatic debut with The Liederkranz Opera as Don Baislio in The Marriage of Figaro. He has opened for The Three Tenors at the Giants’ Meadowlands Stadium with over 80,000 in attendance and has performed for governors such as Jim Florio, Christie Whitman and Ed Rendell. Gafgen has sung leading operatic roles such as Faust, Don Ottavio, Nemorino, and Tamino to name a few. He studied under vocal trainer Louise Caselotti, legendary teacher of Maria Callas, for over 10 years.
The tenors would be incomplete without their diva. Donna Buonauro is a soprano with a talented and well-trained voice. Her debut performance at Carnegie Hall’s tribute to the victims of 9/11 left the audience awestruck with her remarkable rendition of “God Bless America.” Donna has continued to perfect her craft, traveling all over the country with La Diva Tenors, singing a wide range of pieces, from opera arias to pop tunes.
