The Lyric Theatre Presents

Ana Popovic

Serbian blues guitarist and singer Ana Popovic shows off her distinctive style of electric funk slide guitar and soulful, gritty vocals this October. Her song, “One Room Country Shack” off the album Unconditional, was named “Pick-Of-The-Week” in USA Today.

Born in Belgrade in former Yugoslavia, Ana Popovic was raised surrounded by music. Her father introduced her to the blues, educating the budding protégée through his extensive record collection and a series of jam sessions hosted at their family home. Popovic founded her first band at the age of 19 and, within a year, played outside of Yugoslavia for blues musicians around the world, including American recording artist Junior Wells.

Her latest album, Unconditional, was produced by Ana and Grammy Award winning English musician John Porter and received international attention. The album is still in the top 10 of best selling blues albums in the United States on the Billboard chart.  Now residing in Amsterdam, the sultry songstress is proving to be a rising force in the industry. Ana and her 4-piece band have been playing blues, jazz, and rock festivals around the world from Memphis to Mumbai.  Her powerful voice and passionate playing style have earned her a place among the best in the business and her inspired performances are always fresh and diverse.  With three nominations at the 2012 Blues Music Awards and a #1 place on Amazon’s contemporary Blues bestsellers list, Ana promises to put on an extraordinary show.
