Lessons in Kindness – Pet Suitcase
Presented by The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast & The Lyric Theatre
Lessons In Kindness - Pet Suitcase is a Family Fun interactive program to educate families on how to be responsible pet owners. Selected participants will join Jessie Clifford, HSTC’s Director of Humane Education, on The Lyric stage to choose a pet suitcase bag. Ms. Clifford will discuss the items in the chosen bags and why they are essential helping our animals live a happy and healthy life! After the hands on educational lecture, audience members will have the chance to engage with Misty’s Pals Pet Therapy Volunteers and their dogs. Our goal with this presentation is to educate both children and families that owning a pet comes with great responsibility, and that it isn’t a toy that you can just put away and stop taking care of.
The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast has several programs that positively affect animals within our community. The Humane Education Department from HSTC is a program that influences not only animals, but the people who are exposed to the volunteers of Misty’s Pals. Each year, these Pet Therapy volunteers take their trained therapy dogs into local hospitals & nursing homes to spread joy to patients, visiting family members, and staff. They also spend time each month teaching children hands-on humane education lessons that can change the way children see their pets, and this is what we are bringing to the stage!
Misty’s Pals goal is to educate families on the real responsibility of pet ownership, how to read your pet’s behavior, and how to safely introduce yourselves to a dog that you would like to meet! “Lessons in Kindness” teaches everyone that the golden rule also applies to those in the animal world. Get ready to not only have a hands-on learning experience that is geared towards animals, but also have a chance to meet and greet with the teams from Misty’s Pals Pet Therapy group.
“Children trained to extend justice, kindness, and mercy to animals become more just, kind and considerate in their relations with each other. Character training along these lines will result in men and women of broader sympathies, more humane, more law-abiding – in every respect more valuable citizens.” National PTA Congress 1933
