After moving to New York at the age of 15 to become a dancer on Broadway, Rita Rudner soon realized her true passion was to become a comedian. Rudner began exploring the comedy clubs in Manhattan and soon became a regular guest on Late Night with David Letterman and The Tonight Show. Since her beginnings, Rita has become one of the most beloved comedians of all time, winning Las Vegas Comedian of the Year nine years in a row. Rudner has performed all over the country and has filled the prestigious Carnegie Hall three times. In addition to her stage experience, Rita Rudner has recorded a number of comedy specials for television, including PBS’ first stand-up comedy special Rita Rudner: Live from Las Vegas in 2008. Her 2003 syndicated daily TV show Ask Rita was a big hit, as Rita invited a panel of celebrities to solve personal problems submitted by members of the public. A talented writer as well, Rudner has written five books, including Naked Beneath My Clothes which received a Grammy nomination for its audio version. The talented comedian also helped write the 2001 and 2003 Oscar shows with Steve Martin and the 2002 show with Whoopi Goldberg.
Recently, Rita Rudner joined forces with Bette Midler and Sheryl Crow to perform at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. In 2012, Rita and her husband Martin Bergman wrote and performed the Rita Rudner Show for BBC radio. This August at The Lyric Theatre, Rita Rudner will perform comedy you won’t forget, combining witty one-liners and commanding stage presence for a night of comedy gold. A Las Vegas icon, Rita is bringing the charm and glamour of Sin City to the city of Stuart this fall.
