CAPITOL STEPS

Thankfully, when a group of Senate staffers got together to create song parodies for a 1981 Christmas party performance on Capitol Hill, they ignored the well-meaning advice they received afterward not to quit their day jobs.

Over three decades later, the veteran troupe’s sophisticated, savvy, sarcastic and always sensational parodies are as sidesplitting as ever.  Not to mention timely:  Whether political news broke yesterday, this morning – or even an hour ago – chances are it will be parodied in the Capitol Steps’ performance tonight.  

Not all of today’s Capitol Steps members are former staffers, but they still boast impressive resumes.  Taken together, the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.  Maybe it’s that inside perspective that makes their comedy so uniquely insightful and delightful.
