Sean Chambers & Savoy Brown Rhythm Section
Florida-born musician Sean Chambers began his professional career in 1998 when he was asked to back legendary guitarist Hubert Sumlin at a blues festival in Memphis. He worked with Sumlin as his guitarist and bandleader for the next four years and appeared on Sumlin’s 2004 album, About Them Shoes. Britain’s Guitarist magazine called Chambers “one of the top 50 blues guitarists of the last century,” and he has spent two decades showing why he earned that praise.
Chambers is a prolific recording artist as well as a live performer. His 2009 album, Ten Til Midnight, garnered rave reviews and appeared on the Living Blues chart for the first three months after its release. In 2011, he released Live from the Long Island Blues Warehouse, which featured 10 tracks of mostly original works, along with his unique takes on The Kinsey Report’s “Full Moon on Main Street,” and Elmore James’ “Dust My Broom.” The album appeared on BB King’s Sirius/XM Blues Chart as a “Pick to Click” for six weeks in a row and was voted Best Live Blues Album of 2011 by Canada’s Blues Underground Network. In February, 2012, Chambers was featured in stories in Guitar Player magazine and Vintage Guitar magazine.
In 2013, Sean Chambers released The Rock House Sessions. Yet another acclaimed work, the album was nominated for a Blues Blast Music Award in 2014 for Best Blues Rock Album of the Year. His 2017 album, Trouble & Whiskey, was nominated for the same award. Welcome to My Blues, which dropped in 2018, reached number nine on the Billboard Blues Chart in the first week and was again nominated for the Blues Blast Music Award.
In 2020, Chamber paid tribute to his mentor, Hubert Sumlin, with his eighth album, That’s What I’m Talkin’ About. The album reached the top ten on the Billboard Blues Chart and Paul Rodgers of Bad Company called it “Not just the blues rock album of the year, or indeed, the decade. Sean Chambers has produced the blues rock album of the century.”
In 2019, Chambers became friends with the members of Savoy Brown after they played a festival together. When Savoy Brown’s founder, Kim Simmonds, died in 2022, Chambers teamed up with bass player Pat De Salvo and drummer Garnet Grimm. Chambers and Savoy Brown recorded on the same label, they had the blessing of Kim Simmonds, and the move felt right. As a touring band, Sean Chambers takes guitar and vocals, Pat De Salvo takes bass and vocals, and Garnet Grimm takes drums and vocals. They continue to tour throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, although Chambers always returns to his home base in Florida.
Jerry Shriver of USA Today summed up the impact Sean Chamber has had: “Guitarist Chambers achieves the distinctly American blues/soul/country/rock sound that the Stones used to aspire to long ago.”
That’s pretty good company.
