LYRIC THEATRE CO-SPONSORS CHARACTER COUNTS! STUDENT AWARD
The Character Counts! Program of the United Way of
Martin County honors the Character Counts! Student of the Week,
chosen each week of the school year by teachers and counselors
using the Six Pillars of Character as basis for the selection.
The student is awarded four complimentary tickets to a family-
friendly show at The Lyric Theatre.
This is the second year The Lyric Theatre has supported the
program. This year, the law firm of Kramer, Sopko and
Levenstein, P.A. has joined with The Lyric as the award
program’s co-sponsor. John Loesser, Executive Director of The
Lyric Theatre said, “Jim Sopko is a member of the Character
Counts! Board and he is a past founding member of the Friends of
The Lyric. This is a good fit for us and it enables us to
continue supporting a program we believe in and to provide a
gift that will allow the students a chance to see a theatre show
of their choice. We love giving more people the opportunity to
experience live theatre.”
Recent student winner Brandi Marine of Port Salerno Elementary
attended the performance of Strega Nona: The Musical, which is
actually the fusion of three of Tomie dePaola’s cherished
children’s books: “Strega Nona,” “Strega Nona Her Story” and
“Big Anthony and the Magic Ring.” This delightful live
theatrical performance is wonderful family fare, and is ideal
for children ages four to nine.
