Summer and movies seem to go together. What could be better than spending a hot afternoon in a cool theater? When the movies are free and you can buy snacks and drinks, it’s a great way to spend the day.
The Lyric continues its pairing of movies for several weekends this summer. On July 29, you can see “Jersey Boys,” the story of the iconic group the Four Seasons, at 3 p.m. and “La La Land” at 7 p.m. On July 30, you can see “La La Land” at 2 p.m. and “Jersey Boys” at 5 p.m.
The following week you can frighten yourself to death with two offerings by Alfred Hitchcock. On Aug. 5 at 3 p.m., there is “Rear Window” with Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly. At 7 p.m. is “The Birds,” with Rod Taylor and Tippi Hedren, another of Hitchcock’s cool blondes. On the 6th, “The Birds” is at 2 p.m. and “Rear Window” is at 5.
On Aug. 13-14, you get to see Patrick Swayze and Tom Cruise, which should be enough, but they’re also in good movies. On Aug. 13, at 2 p.m., is “Dirty Dancing,” also with Jennifer Grey, and at 5 p.m. is “Top Gun” with Cruise and Kelly McGillis. They may take your breath away.
The series ends Aug. 20 with “Fantastic Beasts” at 2 p.m. and “Hidden Figures at 5 p.m.
Tickets are available only by visiting the Lyric Theatre Box Office; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The free tickets are limited to four per person and are subject to availability.
