The Dude is Back
As part of their increasingly popular Cult Classic series, The Lyric Theatre is presenting a screening of the Coen Brother’s film The Big Lebowski. Starring Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, and John Goodman, the comedy adventure follows the story of an unemployed Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler, Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, as he is thrust into an absurd adventure filled with mistaken identities, a missing toe, and German nihilists. Citing his inspiration, director Joel Coen stated, “We wanted to do a Chandler kind of story – how it moves episodically, and deals with the characters trying to unravel a mystery, as well as having a hopelessly complex plot that’s ultimately unimportant.” Since its release, the film has become so popular that it has inspired an annual Lebowski Fest that invites fans of the movie to gather in their favorite Lebowski-inspired costume and go bowling. For the screenings on February 7th at 4:00pm and 7:00pm, The Lyric has offered to reduce the ticket price by $5 at the door for all those coming in costumes.
