The Lyric Theatre Presents

Doc Grober and the Mudcats

In a Tribute to Fats Waller

Now here’s a doctor visit we always look forward to!  Doc Grober, the Treasure Coast’s very own acclaimed Dixieland pianist, is back at the Lyric with his band, the Mudcats, in a musical tribute to jazz great Fats Waller.

An acclaimed pianist and composer, Waller wrote such standards as “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Squeeze Me,” and “Jitterbug Waltz.”  His Broadway show, “Hot Chocolates,” spawned two hits:  “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “(What Did I Do to Be So) Black and Blue.”

If you’re not familiar with Doc Grober, you should know that he’s a top orthopedic surgeon who’s just as talented when it comes to tickling the ivories.  In fact, his musical roots go back nearly four decades, before he went to medical school.  With his band Ron Grober’s Quaker City Rhythm Kings, he played regularly in Philadelphia, New York and even Paris.

These days, Doc and his Mudcats have a huge local following and enjoy entertaining audiences throughout south Florida.  Their must-see performance will bring the classics of the legendary Waller to life.
